Launch of the Sailing Season

The 2019 season of sailing at TSS was well and truly launched last Friday afternoon, with the traditional Blessing of the Fleet, by our Chaplain, Father Jonathan Whereat. This preceded the first training session for two of our groups, the Racing Team and the first Start Sailing group for whom it was their first time on the water.

All is now set for a great season of sailing. Record numbers of boys - approaching 120 - have expressed interest in being part of the program, and will now be sailing either in Term One or Term 2. We will be running the following groups this term:

Prep Sailing: on a Tuesday afternoon and a Saturday morning

Start Sailing: two groups - one on Mondays and Fridays and the other on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Start Sailing 2: on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Better Sailing 1: on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Better Sailing 2: joining with the Performance Transition Team on a Monday and Friday

We will also be running similar groups as necessary next term, to enable all the boys who have indicated a willingness to learn to sail to have the opportunity to do so.

The Racing Team has been grouped further into the High Performance Team, who will be training on water on Wednesdays and Fridays, with a Gym session on Monday mornings and a theory session on Tuesdays; and the Performance Transition team who will train on water on Mondays and Fridays and together with the High Performance team for the gym sessions and theory sessions. This will allow the coaches to focus more specifically on developing the necessary skills of each boy with the intention of enabling them to make greater progress.

We will be sailing competitively on each Sunday this term, with the Racing Team participating in the Schools Pacer Championships on Sundays 10/2, 17/2, 24/2 and 3/3 and in the GPS Championships on Sunday 24th March.

On Sunday 10th March, Sunday 17th March and Saturday 30th March, we will be holding our own regattas here at TSS and this will be an opportunity for all the boys who are sailing this term to demonstrate what they have learned. More information to follow.

Here's to fair winds and following seas!
