Match Report
The Southport School 9C vs  St Joseph's Nudgee College, Brisbane
On: Saturday, 27 Apr 2019
Venue: Away

The 9Cs came away with a lucky but well deserved draw against Nudgee on Saturday. The boys dominated field position but unfortunately were 2-0 down at half time due to some very skilful shots from the Nudgee boys. The gap could have been much higher if it wasn’t for our goal keeper and Man-of-the-Match Samuel Owen.

The second half continued to see our boys dominate field position and finally breakthrough with a great volley by striker George Powell with 10 minutes remaining. Nudgee replaced their goal keeper and after we kicked the ball out and a goal kick was required he didn’t know what to do. He appeared to have no experience as he picked up the ball and kicked it out of his hands. The referee called it back and the inexperienced goal keeper collected the ball and threw it to one of his defenders to take the goal kick. A few minutes later the ball came to their goal keeper in general play and he picked the ball up thinking it was a goal kick and again threw it to one of their defenders who caught the ball thus giving us a penalty shot ad a chance to square the game. We were all in shock in what just happened but luckily enough George Powell again kept a cool head and slotted the penalty to bring the score to 2-2.

Unfortunately in the final 5 minutes with the boys spirits high and hopeful of pulling off a miraculous win we couldn’t find the net for the third time. The boys played with lots of tenacity and never gave up which is why they were able to come back so late in the game. Other players who got votes from their team mates for man of the match were George Powell and Lachlan Marriott.
